Borrowing Kindles

Due to accessibility concerns, Paley Library no longer loans Amazon Kindle devices.  However, we still retain access to a handful of e-books that have been purchased in Kindle format.  These can be borrowed via the Kindle app on library iPads.

Click here to see records for the titles loaded on the library's Kindles.  Please email brian.boling@temple.edu if you wish to borrow a particular title from this list.

Can I read library e-books on my personal Kindle?

As with many things in life, it depends.

Many academic E-Book publishers use their own proprietary, web-based interfaces to present their offerings; this material cannot be viewed on the rudimentary web interface used by earlier models of Kindle.

Later Kindle models offer support for the PDF format and some library e-book providers will allow you to download PDF chapters for offline reading.

If you have questions about how to use a specific E-Book platform, please email me.

Can the library purchase titles for my personal Kindle?

Because the library exists to provide resources for the entire Temple community, we cannot purchase books for you to use on your personal Kindle device.

You might be interested in the Free Library of Philadelphia's e-book lending program, which has recently added support for Kindle titles.

These titles are available for checkout to users with valid Free Library accounts.
