ESRI Online Bibliography: indexing journals, conference proceedings, books, and reports from the origins of GIS to the present, "the GIS Bibliography contains references to a significant portion of GIS literature," currently 44,875 entries (01/09/07).


GIS Master Bibliography Project:
"The primary goal of the GIS Master Bibliography Project is to provide an infrastructure component that will increase the efficiency of both technical and applcations-oriented workers in the area of geographic information systems. A secondary goal is to provide a database from which a comprehensive picture of the current state of development in GIS can be established, and from which measurements of the rate of development can be established."

David Rumsey Map Collection: "the David Rumsey Historical Map Collection has over 14,800 maps online. The collection focuses on rare 18th and 19th century North and South America maps and other cartographic materials. Historic maps of the World, Europe, Asia and Africa are also represented. Collection categories include antique atlas, globe, school geography, maritime chart, state, county, city, pocket, wall, childrens and manuscript maps. The collection can be used to study history, genealogy and family history."

d-maps.com : contains more than 5900 high definition outline maps, each one proposed in 6 graphic formats (GIF, PDF, CDR, SVG, AI, WMF)

Broer Map Library: "a large collection of government, commercial and other produced maps and atlases from the past three centuries. The library endeavers to provide its collection of maps and atlases online in order to allow libraries and researchers who would not otherwise have access to such a large collection, have them available."

Images of Early Maps on the Web: "the only comprehensive listing of its kind, comprising over 1,200 annotated links - updated at least every two months".

MapMachine: Satellite, street maps and more in National Geographic's online atlas.

SimplyMap: a web-based mapping application with a user-friendly interface that permits users to quickly and easily create professional-quality thematic maps and reports using thousands of demographic, business, and marketing variables. Maps can be exported as high-resolution images to word processing or presentation software; data can be selected, sorted, and compared across multiple locations to build custom reports that can be exported to a spreadsheet. Available data include:

Demographic Variables: population, age, race, income, ancestry, marital status, housing, employment, transportation, families, and more

Business Variables: detailed consumer expenditure, business & employee counts by industry (by NAICS Code), Consumer Price Index, quality of life & consumer profiles, and market segments

2000 census data is available along with current year estimates and 5 year projections. Data is available by census block-groups, census tracts, ZIP codes, cities, counties, states, and the entire United States.

USGS Map Databases: several online map indexes which can be used to locate, view and create maps. Includes the National Map and the National Atlas of the United States.
