Electronic Devices and Technology at Ginsburg: Software on Library PC Computers

Ginsburg Library has laptops and Chromebooks for loan.

General Productivity Applications

Adobe Acrobat - **Only computers with an attached scanner have Adobe Acrobat Professional. All others have Adobe Reader. Adobe Acrobat Professional allows users to create PDF documents and make PDF documents accessible through a process called OCR or Optical Character Recognition. For a PDF that includes text, this OCR processing makes that text readable by a screen reader.

Web Browsers – All library Dell computers have the following web browsers: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. The iMac computers have Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

Microsoft Office Professional 2016 - This standard software package includes Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word.

Music and Media Utilities – The public computers have the following music and video utilities: Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, and iTunes. Headphones are required to play audio and video.

Write n’ Cite - A plugin to Microsoft Word provided by RefWorks Citation Management software

Health Science Applications

Gross Anatomy Laboratory Assistant is also provided by an instructor and includes a Cross Section Navigator and Diagnostic Image Collection. This software was actually designed and built by TUSM faculty.

USMLE World QBank Portal provides a login screen for patrons to log into their own personal USMLE World QBank Subscription

Accessibility Applications

Kurzweil 1000 - A patron can scan a physical book or document with either a scanner or camera and the software will read out loud to them the contents of the scan. - Available on our designated accessible computers on the first floor.

Read and Write Gold - a suite of tools that makes reading, writing and research easier for those who may have trouble with these tasks a result of dyslexia.

Jaws - screen-reading software that allows visually impaired students interact with a computer in much the same way as someone with full sight.

Zoomtext - magnifying software also for patrons with vision impairment 

Computing and 3D Printing Applications

MatLab is a scientific computer processing software that allows for manipulation and visualization of data in addition to other processes.

Google Sketchup is a 3D drafting tool provided by Google and can be used to create models for 3D printing among other uses.
