Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) are groups that review human subject research projects to ensure that they are being planned and carried out ethically. Temple University has its own IRB. Any human subject research project MUST be reviewed and approved by an IRB.
For more information about the Temple IRB see their website.
Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Projects are subject to IRB review. Most will be deemed exempt but they must be submitted and granted this status first. Please submit EBP projects to the IRB. A quick submission process is being developed for EBP specifically.
Quality Improvement (QI) projects: QI projects are not considered research by the IRB, and do not require IRB review. If you are unsure your project is a QI project, contact irb@temple.edu.
IRB Waiver Form
If you are planning a research project (EBP, QI, or other), you can fill out this form to see if your project qualifies for a IRB waiver number: https://redcap.link/LKSOMTUHS_IRBSelf.
If your project does not require IRB review you will recieve a waiver number that you should hold onto. If it does require IRB review, you will have to submit the project to the IRB as usual. Please answer honestly and completely, and if you have any questions please email irb@temple.edu.
