TUH EBP & Research Council

Evidence-Based Practice Fellowship Program

The TUH EBP & Research Council noticed that many Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) projects were not making it to completion due to various factors but mostly because of lack of support.  In response to this, The Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Fellowship Program began in 2025 as a way to support nurses through their entire EBP project.  The council members include working nurses at TUH, nurse educators, nurse scientists, and health science librarians.

Support includes but is not limited to:

  • Identifying a problem
  • Searching and appraising the literature
  • Finding data, data management and sharing
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission
  • Connecting to additional resources at TUHS and TU

Who:   This Program is for clinical nurses at TUH, Inc. This Program is run by nurses from the EBP Council and the Health Sciences librarians. All clinical nurses will be invited to participate in this Fellowship Program. Interested nurses will apply and be screened by the EBP Council. Expectations and time commitment involved in joining the Program will be reviewed with potential Fellows and their associate directors/nurse managers. Once accepted, the associate director/nurse manager will block the times in Smart Square so that the Fellow is scheduled appropriately.

What:  This Program is for the purpose of mentoring clinical nurses to lead the implementation of an EBP project on their units.

The Fellows will attend the regularly scheduled EBP Council meetings on the third Wednesday of the month to provide

project updates, receive coaching and mentoring, and prepare completed project for dissemination. Small funds are available

for any project-related costs, such as purchasing rights to a validated tool or for a statistician when analyzing data.

Why:   The purpose of this Program is to provide support and mentorship to clinical nurses that empowers them to lead an EBP

project on their unit. It takes 15 years for research findings to be implemented at the bedside. This Program strives to decrease

            that timeframe.

  • Goals
      • Translate research findings into practice
      • Reduce variations in care
      • Improve patient outcomes

Where: This Program will be held at the Student Faculty Center during regularly scheduled EBP Council meetings.

When:  The fellowship will last for approximately 12 months.
