What type of article are you writing?

If you have a particular journal in mind, go to their website and see what article types they accept.

PubMed
To find journals that publish on your topic AND publish a specific article type search PubMed for topic and filter to article type (case report, for example)

How to find an unexpected journal to publish in?

Search somewhere different. Below are some possibilities.

CINAHL
Nursing and allied health.
Academic Search Complete
All academic disciplines and topics.

Directory of Open Access Journals
A searchable database of academic and scholarly open access journals.

Where are your collaborators, mentors, colleagues publishing?

Find out where they are publishing by finding their CV.

PubMed
Search for collaborators, mentors, colleagues in PubMed.
Google Scholar
Search for collaborators, mentors, colleagues in Google Scholar.
