Source Gathering: Library Policies

Resources for law journal and review staffers.

Borrowing

Those participating in the cite checking process are governed by the same rules which apply to all library users.  Library materials are checked out to individuals who remain responsible for them.  These items should be kept in a secure place such as the Journal offices.  It is unwise to let them remain in carrels in open areas.  Users who should note when library materials are to be returned and if they need to use them should renew them in a timely way.  While these rules apply to items borrowed form the Law Library, the circulation policies of the University Library must be observed for items borrowed from the Paley Library or the Medical Library.  They should be kept in a secure place and returned or renewed promptly.  Failure to do so may cause difficulties in registration for the next semester or for the graduation process.

Materials borrowed through interlibrary loan must be used in strict accordance with the rules governing the process.  It is imperative that they be kept secure and returned on time.

Thank you for your co-operation with these rules.

Library Carrels

Use of Library Carrels by Staff members of the Law School Journals

Library carrels are available for the use of members of the several Law School Journals.
Level 5:  Temple International & Comparative Law Journal
Level 6A:  Temple Political & Civil Rights Law Review
Levels 7/7A:  Temple Law Review

Please keep the following directives in mind when using these carrels.

  1. A notice of "research in progress" should be posed at each carrel.  This notice should be updated at the beginning of each month.
  2. The materials in each carrel must be organized in such a way as to be easily accessed by Library staff and other users.  Storage of materials in carrels is permitted for the convenience of those engaged in research, but it does not remove the library materials from accessibility for other users.
  3. Overloaded or disorderly carrels will be reordered by the Library staff.
  4. Where resources are available online in a format which is acceptable for cite checking, it is supposed the members of the journal staffs will make use of such sources.
  5. At the completion of each research project, it is the responsibility of the members of the journal staff to return volumes to their places in the stacks.

If everyone involved in the cite checking process would keep these rules in mind, the resources being used will remain accessible to others working on the same project as well as to the other members of the Law School community who may need to consult these materials.
