๐Ÿ”Ž Get Started with Library Research

Research Alerts

Research alerts serve to notify you of any new research published on a particular topic.

There are two ways to set up these alerts in our library resources:

Search Alerts

Search alerts allow you to specify keywords, subjects in a field, or search strings that are of interest to you. When a new record is added to our library catalog and it matches your saved search criteria, then you will receive a notification.

Journal Alert

Journal alerts help you to stay informed of new research in your area. Even though search alerts are fairly straightforward to set up, the steps to create a journal alert occur within the actual database or e-journal interface.

Managing Search Alerts through the library catalog

  1. Sign in to your library account by using the 'Sign In' button in the upper right of the webpage.
  2. Start the search with keywords or an advanced search string.
    • Use the filters on the left side to limit to specific formats (journal article, newspaper article, book, etc.)
  3. At center of the top of the results page, click on 'Save Query'
  4. Click on your account in the upper right of the webpage and click on 'Saved Items'
  5. Navigate to the 'Saved Searches' tab and click on the bell-shaped icon next to the saved search to create an alert.
    • Modify the receiving email address if a different email is desired.
    • Generally, alerts are sent weekly if there are new items which match your saved search.
    • To cancel an alert, come to this page again and click on the bell icon to unset an alert.
