Securing Your Home Wifi

  • Change default username and password of wireless router
  • Make sure the wifi password is strong
  • Require WPA (good), WPA2 (better), WPA3 (best) password
  • Only you (and those that you allow) are on the wifi. (Some access providers allow you to set up guest accounts.)

Browsing: Steps You Can Take

  • Secure your home wifi
  • Turn on your computer's firewall
  • Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • Keep your browser software updated to latest version 
  • Use a search engine that doesn't track you
  • If you do not use a VPN:
    • Use your cellphone hotspot instead of public wifi
  • If you do not use a VPN or cellphone hotspot:
    • Do not share private information over public wifi
    • Only share private information on HTTPS (secure) websites
