The basic components of a dataset citation are similar to citing publications:
Creator (Publication Year). Title. Version. Publisher. Identifier
- Creator(s) - a person, organization, government agency
- Title - name given to the dataset or study
- Publication Year - the date when the dataset was made available
- Publisher - the data center or repository providing access to the data
- Version - the edition or version number, if appropriate
- Identifier - URL, DOI, or other location information for the data
