Database Search Strategies
These databases are Temple Libraries' main sources for researching health and medicine topics. Check the description below each database to see what topics that database covers and some recommended search terms to use when researching LGBTQ people and LGBTQ health.
Health Sciences Databases
CINAHL [via EBSCOhost]
CINAHL covers nursing and health journals, and some books, conference proceedings, and dissertations.
Search: GLBT Persons, Gay Persons, Gay Men, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Transgender Persons to find articles on these groups of people.
EMBASE offers references and journal articles on healthcare, medicine, and pharmaceutical topics.
Search: Sexual and Gender Minority, LGBT People, Homosexual Male, Homosexual Female, Bisexual Male, Bisexual Female, and Transgender to find information on these groups of people.
AccessMedicine is an online resource and library that offers medical textbooks, videos, and self-assessments.
Search: LGBT, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Gender Minority, and Sexual Minority to find information on these groups of people.
PsycINFO offers journal articles, books, and technical reports in the field of psychology and from the psychological subfields of medicine, psychiatry, pharmacology, and other related fields.
Search: LGBTQ, Homosexuality, Male Homosexuality, Gay Men, Lesbianism, Lesbian, Bisexuality, Sexual Orientation, Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, Gender Identity, and Sexual Minority Groups to find information on mental health and psychology topics related to these groups of people.
PsychiatryOnline is produced by the American Psychological Association and offers access to the DSM-5 and several APA journals.
Search: LGBT, LGBTQ, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Sexual and Gender Minority to find information on mental health and psychiatry topics related to these groups of people.

Google Scholar covers a wide range of books, academic journals, publications, grey literature, and other sources of information. Temple Libraries provides access to the full-text of many of these article for Temple students, staff, and faculty.
To set this up, go to Google Scholar and click the three bar symbol in the upper left corner, then click "Settings", then click "Library Links". Search "Temple University" and select "Temple University Libraries", then click "Save".
