Professional Associations

There are national professional associations for LGBTQ-identifying health professionals and for health professionals who are interested in treating and advocating for LGBTQ populations, for several medical professions and specialties. Individual hospitals, health practices, and medical schools may also have groups for LGBTQ-identifying and LGBTQ-allied students, staff, and employees.

AMA LGBTQ Advisory Committee
The American Medical Association (AMA) Advisory Committee on LGBTQ Issues highlights LGBTQ news, research, and other topics related to patients and physicians.
American Academy of Pediatrics: Section on LGBT Health and Wellness
The American Academy of Pediatrician's Section on LGBT Health and Wellness is a group of pediatricians who offer education and resources on treating LGBT children and their families.
American Medical Student Association: Gender and Sexuality Action Committee
The Gender and Sexuality Action Committee is dedicated to offering equal access to medical care, equality within medical education, and advocating to improve local, state and federal policy.
American Psychological Association: Office on Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity
The APA's Office on Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity offers information and resources on recent and ongoing policy and advocacy work in LGBT health disparity areas, and both in government agencies and the non-profit health care community to address these issues.
GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality
Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality (previously known as the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association) is the world's largest and oldest association of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) healthcare professionals. GLMA's mission is to ensure equality in healthcare for LGBT individuals and healthcare providers.
GLMA Nursing
Nurses and nurse allies who are GLMA members dedicated to improving health and healthcare for all LGBTQ individuals and families.
HIV Medicine Association
The HIV Medicine Association is an organization of medical professionals who practice HIV medicine. They promote quality in HIV care and advocate for policies that ensure a comprehensive and humane response to the AIDS pandemic.
LGBT Caucus of Public Health Professionals
The LGBT Caucus is an association of public health professionals committed to furthering LGBT issues within the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the field of public health at large.
World Professional Association for Transgender Health
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, interdisciplinary professional and educational organization devoted to transgender health.
