-> How to: Search in the TUJ Library Catalog

Use this guide to learn how to search for books, articles, media, and other resources in the TUJ Library Catalog. Learn how to access your library account, renew books, save items, save searches, and place hold requests.

Saving Items

  • Anyone using the catalog can save items found during a search session.
  • TUJ students and faculty who have logged into their library account will be able to view saved items on future visits after logging.
  • If you have not logged in, any saved items will be cleared once the window or tab containing the search session has been closed.

After running a search in the library catalog, you can save items individually or you can save multiple items at once.

To save an individual item, click on the pin icon for the item in either the search results screen or the full catalog record:

From the saved items list, you can select multiple items to email, print, or export to a citation manager.  To do this, check the boxes to select the items you want, and then click on the ellipses (three dots) in the gray bar above the list of saved items.  Then click the icons to email or print, or select the appropriate filetype to export to your preferred citation manager.

Saving Searches

  • TUJ students and faculty who have logged into their library account are able to save searches (a.k.a. "queries") for easy re-use during future sessions
  • Logged in users can set up automatic notifications for their saved searches

To save a search/query, start by running a search.

Next, click the red pin labeled "Save query" above the list of search results:

If desired, click "Turn on notification for this query" in the yellow confirmation banner that appears at the top of the screen.  Enter an email address in the pop-up window to receive alerts when new matches are found.

To view saved queries, click on the pin in the upper right-hand corner of the persistent menu bar and then click on "Saved Searches" to switch from a list of items to a list of searches:

To turn on notifications for a query that was saved previously, go to your list of saved searches and then click on the alarm bell icon to the right of the query you want to receive alerts for. A pop-up window will ask you to enter the email address where you wish to receive notifications.

About notifications:

If notifications are turned on for a saved search, you will receive emails periodically when new material that matches your query has been added to the catalog.

Notifications that have not triggered an alert (i.e. searches for which no new hits have been found) in the past 90 days are automatically inactivated.
