What's the difference between encyclopedia articles and journal articles?
Encyclopedia articles provide background and overview material, including facts, dates, events, and brief explanations. They are very often written by scholars, especially ones found in specialized academic encyclopedias. Encyclopedia articles do not go through a formal peer-review process.
Journal articles, in contrast, are based on original research and are written with the intention of advancing a scholarly argument. They contribute new knowledge to a field of research. They are usually peer-reviewed, though not always.
