What kind of sources should I look for?
The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon is a little more obscure than some of the other classic texts in this course. In order to find background information on the author and her work, you will need to search the following research databases. Look for encyclopedia articles, book reviews, brief biographies, or more critical analyses of the author and her work (mainly in journal articles).
A simple but effective search strategy is to use the title of the book (pillow book) and author last name (shonagon) together in a search: "pillow book" and shonagon. Search for author, background, and contextual information.
