Ratha-yatra, Philadelphia, 1975"Sri Prabhubad was the Indian guru who brought the Hare Krishna movement to the US in 1965, and the video features one of his visits to Philadelphia ten years later, in 1975, during the Ratha Yatra procession, which features icons placed on chariots and wheeled about the city by ecstatic devotees. It's quite remarkable footage. There is, furthermore, a significant Temple connection, as Prabhupad had visited the university several years earlier and initiated a young doctoral student in Religion named William Deadwyler (Ravindra Swarupa dasa: http://rsdasa.com/), who for many years has been one of the leading figures in the movement and chief guru at the Philly Krishna temple up in Germantown (http://iskconphiladelphia.com/).
