Sharing qualitative data amplifies the impact of your research by increasing transparency, supporting reproducibility, and facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborations. It allows researchers to comply with funder and publisher mandates and enriches the scholarly community by making it possible to address complex questions with existing data. Sharing qualitative data can also serve pedagogical purposes, enhance research training, and minimize research fatigue among study populations.
See the recommendations below for guidance and support resources to help you share qualitative data responsibly and ethically, with the appropriate level of access restriction. Data sharing is easiest when data management and sharing plan is established as early as possible in the research process. Staff at Temple Libraries and at our member data repositories are available to help researchers plan for qualitative data sharing. Contact asktulibrary@temple.edu or the repositories listed below for support.
Striking a balance between sufficient de-identification and analytic usefulness can be challenging when sharing qualitative data. Here are tools and models that have been developed to assist with the de-identifying process.
