Course Reserves for Instructors

This guide will introduce you to the libraries' course reserves program, which you can use to make your course materials freely available to students. Have questions about reserves? Email us at preserve@temple.edu.

Why should you use course reserves?

Course reserves are an important resource for several reasons.

For one thing, it saves you time as the instructor. As you build your syllabus, you just have to send your list of materials to the library, and we do all the work of getting your students access. There is no need for you to scan your own materials, navigate paywalls, etc.

Course reserves are also a powerful tool for textbook affordability. When the library guarantees access to all course materials, your course becomes a "zero-cost course" that does not require students to spend any money. A recent survey demonstrated that 49% of Temple students are at least moderately concerned about the cost of their course materials. The security offered by zero-cost courses increases student success and satisfaction in your course.
