Course Reserves for Instructors

This guide will introduce you to the libraries' course reserves program, which you can use to make your course materials freely available to students. Have questions about reserves? Email us at preserve@temple.edu.

List management

When should I create and submit my reading list?

We recommend submitting your reading list to the library as soon as you can. While most requests can be fulfilled within a few days, sometimes we have to purchase an item or recall it from another patron, which can take several weeks. At minimum, please submit your reserve requests one week before you need them.

Why should I use course reserves rather than link items in my Canvas modules?

Because course reserves allows you to add library materials as well as freely available web content, your reading list can be the place where all your course materials live. Students will only need to visit one place to access all the materials they need.

Additionally, using course reserves means that the library has a second set of eyes on your course materials and can address any access or copyright issues for you.

How can I view my reading list as a student?

Click the three dots at the top of the screen and click "View list as student."

Do NOT use Canvas student view - it does not work with the reserves interface. You will get an error message.
